7 Scholarships for International Students in the US for 2017
Traveling to another country is exciting, but it can also be stressful. Having to worry about money on top of pleasing your parents, making living arrangements and finding new friends can seem overwhelming.
Whether you’re coming to the United States from China, India or any other country, getting a scholarship can provide you with the extra money you need so you can focus more on other things like making the most out of your study abroad experience.
Here is a list of 7 international student scholarships:
1. Foreign Fullbright Scholarship
This scholarship provided by the United States government allows graduate students and young professionals the opportunity to come to the United States to study and conduct research. About 4,000 students from 155 countries receive this scholarship each year. This scholarship provides for all education, airfare, health care, living and more.
The deadline varies.
2. Humphrey Fellowship Program
Sponsored by the United States government, this program gives international students the opportunity to study in the United States. This program is different because you must already have graduated from an undergraduate program and have worked in a professional environment for at least five years. Students who are selected get ten months of non-degree related study.
Deadlines vary by country of origin, but are finalized October 1.
3. AAUW International Fellowship
International students who are women can win scholarship money through the AAUW International Fellowship Program. So far more than 3,400 women from more than 140 countries have won a scholarship through the program. If you win, you can get up to $30,000 in award money.
Applicants can apply from August 1 to December 1.
4. CollegeWeekLive $1,000 Scholarship
CollegeWeekLive gives away $1,000 in scholarships each month to students who view five colleges through their website. You need to signup on CollegeWeekLive and enroll in an American college to be eligible.
There is no deadline.
5. Fund For Thought Scholarship
Scholarships are awarded to students with the best essays. All you have to do is describe what you have achieved so far and how you plan to make a difference in your field of study, and you can win up to $2,000. While there is a $20 fee to enter, you can win one of 47 awards.
The deadline is March 31.
6. The RewardExpert Study Abroad Scholarship
This scholarship aimed at promoting study abroad in new countries awards 2 US international students $1,000 in awards each year. To be eligible, all you have to do is prove you’re an international student studying in the United States. It’s easy.
The deadline is April 15.
7. UFIC International Student Emergency Hardship Scholarship Application
For international students who are attending the University of Florida in Gainesville, this scholarship is a perfect option. Six students each year will be selected to win the scholarship of $2,500. The scholarship is for students who have had an emergency or hardship and are in need of the money to continue their education.
The deadlines are March 1 for Spring and November 1 for Fall.
