    Cuban food is the ultimate mixture of Caribbean cuisine and comfort food. It is customary that these meals are full of flavor and a variety of options to choose from. We have put together a list of 5 Cuban dishes that will make you feel like you have stepped into the beautiful island.

    This Cuban favorite that means “middle of the night” is the kind of sandwich that will make you reconsider any sandwich you have ever had before. If you have ever visited Miami, you have probably gotten your hands on one of these as they are available in every bakery in town. The star of the dish is the sweet bread that brings the medianoche together, along with the roast pork, ham, cheese, and pickles. This is not your ordinary sandwich so be ready to have the experience of a lifetime when biting into of these bad boys.

    2. Mojo Pork Roast

    This recipe is a classic one for any Cuban household. The easiest way to marinate any protein is adding some mojo to it. The mojo could be created with many ingredients but usually has onion, garlic, salt, lemon juice and complete seasoning powder. You can add mojo on chicken and even steak! These ingredients will make your dish a million times better. To get the most flavor, our of your pork shoulder let it marinate in mojo for at least 24 hours.

    Get ready to try this moist, delicious chicken stew recipe that will leave you speechless. This recipe began many generations ago with the legendary cook and author Nitza Villapol. Even if you are not a big fan of “soup” this is not your ordinary mix. Give this recipe a try and layer it over white rice for the perfect combination. You will fill satisfied and full from all the protein and carbs of the potatoes in this dish. For an extra kick add some raisins to your fricase de pollo and let us know what you think.

    4. Cuban Style Shredded Beef (Ropa Vieja)

    As you could probably tell from now Cuban food is heavy on spices and a mix of flavors. Most delicious meals rely on a sauce base to serve over white rice. Ropa vieja is made with beef and is seasoned with oregano, red peppers, and thyme. To top off the dish you may also add some olives and capers at your preference.

    5. Cuban Style Yuca (Yuca con Mojo)

    This yuca con mojo serves as a great side dish for many food dishes. Yuca is served with a light mojo made with oil, garlic, and onion. The first step to the perfect yuca is boiling it to have the right texture which could take up to 30 minutes. The result will be a light yuca than can be used in many different ways after it is boiled such as fried (yuca frita) which is just as delicious.
